Useful, practical advice
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my son, a college junior, who is in the process of applying for summer internships; read it before wrapping and putting it under the tree. Since I have hired and supervised interns for many years, the tips in this book seem common sense to me, but then I figure my kids are more likely to heed advice from someone else -- I mean, how often do teenagers listen to their parents? The author's short and informal style speaks to young adults, and the fact that he provided lots of anecdotes based on his experience added value to the tips. Instead of lecturing my son on the wisdom of applying to as many internships as he can find, I just asked him, what did Eric's book say? Ditto on how to write the application. Hopefully when he gets an internship this summer, he will refer to tips on how to make an impression, manage his boss, deal with difficult people and succeed in his internship. I bought a 2nd copy for my daughter who is a college freshman.

A *MUST-READ* for anyone who is considering an internship
As a former intern coordinator myself (and a former intern that landed a job), I can tell you that most interns today suck. Why? Because they don't follow the principals outlined in Eric's book. I wish every intern would read/study/get quizzed on the tips that Eric provides in this book. You may have an ivy league degree, but if you can't figure out a fax machine, you're pretty worthless. Ditto with not knowing what is considered 'appropriate' attire, or giving attitude when asked to file. Eric writes in a way that is easy to understand and gives real life examples on the advice that he offers. A fantastic book overall!!!

This work is aimed at students - but also their parents, their teachers, and the employers who mentor them as interns. Great resource
This book came in handy as a student teacher and when applying for teaching jobs. I appreciated the strategies on how to jump-start my student teaching on a positive note by creating relationships with my students and CT. Even though I have now completed my student teaching, I will continue to use many of the book's classroom management and discipline tips in my own classroom, such as the question & answer box and bellnote activity. I recommend this to any student teacher."

Good book to get you started
I bought this book right before my student teaching, and while I didn't use it so much before my student teaching (despite there being a whole section dedicated to the pre-service teacher), it came in handy for what to expect during student teaching and what to do after. There is a website for the book that gives you extremely helpful information, such as the most asked interview questions, to help you prepare and land a job.If you need some help with the unspoken "rules" of student teaching, or some tips to get a job, this book will help you. Establishing networks in bigger districts is a little harder to do, but those sections may work for smaller districts where there is only one high school, etc.

Reframing Options
Having worked in the hospitality industry for almost 30 years, this book can help anyone considering employment in foodservice. Instead of the traditional thinking of "what job fits my qualifications?", this book demonstrates how to make your place in the world by making a job or finding a job to fit your qualifications; to fit your personality and to fit your passion. For many people, this is a major paradigm shift.Irena has filled the pages with examples, testimonials and research demonstrating how to make your passion into a rewarding career. So, exactly how many people are out there that hate their jobs? Apparently they never read this book.

This book exceeded my expectations.
This book is very good for not only the food field but also for other "creative" jobs. I'm a flower designer but I started reading this book and picked up many great hints to extend my work and my career.I was inspired by the author's knowledge and writing style. I also appreciated learning about not only so many jobs which are involved with food, but also new ways of thinking about the job search process. Before you get a new job, or change your career direction, if you read this book you'll be sure to pick up lots of new ideas. This is a very interesting book on many levels.
