Useful, practical advice
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my son, a college junior, who is in the process of applying for summer internships; read it before wrapping and putting it under the tree. Since I have hired and supervised interns for many years, the tips in this book seem common sense to me, but then I figure my kids are more likely to heed advice from someone else -- I mean, how often do teenagers listen to their parents? The author's short and informal style speaks to young adults, and the fact that he provided lots of anecdotes based on his experience added value to the tips. Instead of lecturing my son on the wisdom of applying to as many internships as he can find, I just asked him, what did Eric's book say? Ditto on how to write the application. Hopefully when he gets an internship this summer, he will refer to tips on how to make an impression, manage his boss, deal with difficult people and succeed in his internship. I bought a 2nd copy for my daughter who is a college freshman.

A *MUST-READ* for anyone who is considering an internship
As a former intern coordinator myself (and a former intern that landed a job), I can tell you that most interns today suck. Why? Because they don't follow the principals outlined in Eric's book. I wish every intern would read/study/get quizzed on the tips that Eric provides in this book. You may have an ivy league degree, but if you can't figure out a fax machine, you're pretty worthless. Ditto with not knowing what is considered 'appropriate' attire, or giving attitude when asked to file. Eric writes in a way that is easy to understand and gives real life examples on the advice that he offers. A fantastic book overall!!!

Good Read
Great advice in a format that young people can easily understand and relate to. Very good tips that I will almost certainly use in the future. I would recommend this book for anyone applying to internships and/or trying to make the most out of their internships or jobs.

Product Description
Eric Woodard grew up in Bangkok, transferred colleges 7 times, became a scuba instructor on Guam, then he got an internship at the White House… Your Last Day of School gives students specific, actionable advice about how they can be massively successful during an internship. Based on the author's experience as an intern at the White House, and later as a White House and Capitol Hill staffer charged with managing interns in some very high octane environments, he offer 56 steps to help students become awesome interns. Many students pursue internships today, but very few have been taught the skills they need to thrive as interns. Rather than use their valuable internship time to learn the basics, this book teaches students the skills they need to start their internship on the right foot and start learning the good stuff from day one. This work is aimed at students - but also their parents, their teachers, and the employers who mentor them as interns. You would think that somebody must have already written a book like this, but they haven’t. Students, parents, teachers, and employers all know students could be better prepared for internships – they just aren’t sure how. This book offers the solution. Top to learn more
